Service-learning Inclusive Design for the Community through Adaptive Clothing and Accessories

This exhibition is set to showcase a novel service-learning sub-ject. It involves approximately 60 PolyU students, in partnership with 1st Step Association, an NGO that offers free services to wheelchair users in the community. The exhibition will highlight how apparel and accessories can be used as tools of care, enabling service recipients and students to build inner confidence through their apparel outfits and daily activities. It will also provide an opportunity for students to interact with each recipient, and a range of custom-designed apparel outfits and accessories have been developed in collaboration with the service recip-ients. This exhibition aims to disseminate the creative outputs of student projects and to feature the apparel needs of people with different abilities.

"We hope that through the experience of making this electric wheelchair sewing project, students can gain a deeper understanding of the needs of individuals with physical disabilities in community life. In the future, when there is an opportunity for development in their major fields of study, they can consider and reflect on the perspectives of diverse communities." - 1st Step Association
